What brings together a discussion on continental philosophy, psychoanalysis, neurosciences, and affective brain? In one word, trauma. In this talk I will focus on Catherine Malabou’s work on “destructive plasticity” to discuss the future of continental philosophy and neuroscience. In short, I will discuss the future of the self.
Dr. Sevket Benhur Oral is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of English and Communication at Khalifa University, Abu Dhabi. He received his PhD in Curriculum and Instruction (C&I) with a concentration in educational philosophy in the College of Human Sciences at Iowa State University, USA in 2007. His main research areas are social and philosophical foundations of education, Dewey studies, and phenomenological studies in education. His focus is on contemporary issues in continental philosophy (Graham Harman, Quentin Meillassoux, and Ray Brassier along with Alain Badiou and Slavoj Žižek).
